WEST ORANGE, N.J. -- University of Delaware men's golfer Kieran Purcell finished in a tie for fourth place at the prestigious 61st Ike Championship held this week at Essex County Country Club.
Purcell (Jersey City, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) fired a five under par 68-73-67-208 on the par 71 course, tying for fourth place out of the 41 players who qualified for the final day of action. He posted 12 birdies during the tournament, including five in both the first and third rounds, while carding only seven bogeys on the week. Purcell finished five shots behind co-leaders Cameron Young and Peter Kim.
The tournament continued a successful summer for Purcell, who tied for third place at the New Jersey Amateur earlier this month.
Purcell, who will be a junior at Delaware this fall, was the only Blue Hen to appear in all 12 tournaments during the 2015-16 season, ranking second on the team with a 75.45 average round. He tied for third on the squad with three top-20 finishes, and led UD at the CAA Championship by tying for 14th place.
