Blue Hens Open Delaware Invitational With Thrilling Five-Set Win Over Miami (Fla.)
9/16/2016 10:15:00 PM | Volleyball
Bonnie Kenny. “I thought we were a good, tough team tonight, and we won the serve and pass game.”
The first set featured 10 ties and seven lead changes, before the Blue Hens used a 6-2 spurt to break an 11-11 deadlock and led the rest of the way. The second stanza was just as tight and featured 12 ties, including the final deadlock at 21 apiece. However Delaware then took the next three points, and following a Miami point, Jenkins slammed a kill to put the Blue Hens up two sets.
Miami dominated the third set, and after Delaware rallied to knot the fourth frame at 23-23, the Hurricanes used a pair of Strantzali kills to take the set and force the decider.
Missouri defeated Duquesne, 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-17), in the first match of the day.
The invitational continues on Saturday with four matches, including the Blue Hens taking on Duquesne at 12 noon and Missouri at 7 p.m.
