Delaware Closes Out Non-Conference Schedule Tuesday vs. Penn

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team will close out the non-conference portion of its 2016 schedule on Tuesday when the Blue Hens host Penn at 7 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center.
UD is 6-6 on the season after winning two of three matches at the Delaware Invitational over the weekend, posting dramatic five-set victories over Miami (Fla.) and Duquesne before falling to Missouri in straight sets. Following tonight's match, the Blue Hens will close their regular season with 16 straight Colonial Athletic Association contests.
Senior Autumn Jenkins was UD's representative on the All-Tournament Team as she ranked second on the squad with 23 kills and 33 digs while posting a pair of double-doubles. Maria Bellinger paced the Blue Hens with 33 kills (2.43 per set) during the three matches, while Alexa Swann added 21 kills and hit a team-best .226 at the invitational.
Julia Anderson handed out 78 assists (6.00 per set) for Delaware, while Taylor Hollingsoworth made a team-leading 42 digs and Corey Perkins and Kori Rasmussen added 31 apiece. Swann posted 18 blocks during the weekend, including a career-high 10 vs. Duquense, while Daria Robinson contributed 10 blocks of her own.
Penn carries a 4-7 record into the match, as the Quakers swept La Salle on Friday before dropping straight set decisions to Temple and Villanova on Saturday at the Big 5 Tournament. Courtney Quinn leads Penn with four double-doubles on the year and ranks third in the Ivy League with 102 kills (2.68 per set), while Sydney Morton is averaging 6.87 assists per set and Michelle Pereira leads the Ivy with 166 digs (4.37 per set).
Delaware leads the all-time series with Penn, 16-10, and the teams have met in each of last six years with the Blue Hens taking four of those contests including the last two. Last season UD posted a four-set win over the Quakers at The Palestra as Chandler Bryant slammed 15 kills and Swann added 11 for the Blue Hens.
Following the match vs. the Quakers, Delaware opens its CAA schedule on Saturday when the Blue Hens host long-time rival Towson at 7 p.m.
