Delaware Kicks Off CAA Play Saturday vs. Towson

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team opens its Colonial Athletic Association schedule on Saturday when the Blue Hens host local rival Towson at 7 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Delaware, which is 6-7 on the season, will be looking to snap a two-match losing skid after falling at home to Penn in four sets on Tuesday night. Blue Hen senior Autumn Jenkins posted her fifth double-double of the season with a team-high 15 kills to go with 18 digs, while freshman Maria Bellinger recorded the first double-double of her career by adding 11 kills and a career-best 14 digs.
Julia Anderson was the third Blue Hen to notch a double-double as she finished with 49 assists and 15 digs, while Alexa Swann added 11 kills and Taylor Hollingsworth led the team with 29 digs. Additionally, Lauren Talley slammed a season-high nine kills to go with a career-high 13 digs off the bench.
Hollingsworth currently ranks third in the league with 4.72 digs per set, while Swann is fourth with 1.11 blocks per set and Anderson ranks sixth with an 8.20 assists average.
Towson enters the match with a 12-2 record, and the Tigers are coming off a four-set victory home victory over VCU on Tuesday. Jessica Lewis leads Towson with 209 kills, 144 digs, 16 service aces and a .331 hitting percentage, while Marrisa Wonders is averaging 6.88 assists per set and Anna Holehouse adds 4.11 digs per set.
The Tigers had an impressive non-conference season, as Towson currently leads the CAA with a .286 hitting percentage, .103 opponents hitting percentage, 14.04 kills per set, and 95 service aces.
Towson holds a narrow 41-39 lead in the all-time series with the Blue Hens, with each team posting a five-set victory on the other's home court a year ago. Delaware is 7-8 during its 15 CAA opening matches, and will be facing Towson in its league opener for the sixth time in the last seven years.
Saturday's match will be a WHITEOUT, with the first 250 fans receiving a free t-shirt. Additionally, the entire team will be signing autographs following the contest.
