PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Freshman Fede Prieto (Las Rozas de Madrid, Spain/IES Carmen Conde/Mostoles CF) posted a season-best two goals Wednesday evening as Delaware shutout Drexel, 2-0, at Vidas Field.
The shutout is the sixth of the season for the Blue Hens, who improve to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in CAA action.
Prieto headed in UD's first goal of the evening in the 13th minute following the assist from senor Jaime Martinez (at left; Madrid, Spain/American School of Madrid). With his assist, Martinez moves into a tie for seventh place in program history with 13 career helpers.
With less than two minutes remaining until halftime, the midfielder picked up his fourth goal of the season to give the Hens the final 2-0 advantage.
Redshirt sophomore Todd Morton (below right; West Chester, Pa./Henderson) registered two saves for his 12th career shutout.
Armin Efendic led the Dragons (1-6-2, 0-2 CAA) with two shots. Tyler Afflerbach collected three saves in the loss.
“This was a terrific result tonight in Philadelphia. We have been getting goals from a lot of players this year and tonight was Fede's turn. Keeping another clean sheet was the added bonus we needed. We look forward to heading back home for a top of the table clash Saturday night with Hofstra.”
