Delaware Volleyball Drops Five-Set Heartbreaker To UNCW

UNCW never trailed while taking the first two sets by identical 25-22 scores, and the Seahawks appeared to be in command of the third frame when they captured four straight points to take a
19-15 lead.
However the Blue Hens answered with a 10-4 run, culminated with a Jenkins kill, to get back into the match.
The fourth set was tied 7-7 early on, before Delaware won the next three points and led the rest of the way.
UNCW eventually closed within 21-18, but the Blue Hens took the following four points to force the deciding fifth set.
The Seahawks jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the final stanza, but three straight UD points made it an 8-8 deadlock.
However UNCW answered by taking seven of the final nine points to post the victory.
The Blue Hens remain home on Saturday to host Elon at 7 p.m.
Match Notes:
• Bellinger's 21 kills are the most by a UD player since Jenkins had 24 vs. Southern Illinois in the 2015 season opener
• Jenkins posted her team-leading seventh double-double of the year
• Hollingsworth's 32 digs are one shy of her career-high
• The Blue Hens set season-highs with 68 kills, 62 assists and 108 digs
• UD lost for the first time in its three five-set matches this year
• UNCW defeated the Blue Hens for the fifth straight meeting
