DEDHAM, Mass. – The Blue Hens wrapped the CAA regular season for the second straight year with an unblemished record as No. 7 Delaware defeated Northeastern, 5-1, Sunday afternoon at a dreary Dedham Field.
The top-seeded Hens (13-4, 6-0 CAA) will take on the fourth-seeded Huskies (8-11, 3-3 CAA) in back-to-back contests, as Delaware hosts Northeastern at 3 p.m. Friday in the first game of the CAA semifinals at Fred P. Rullo Stadium. William & Mary and James Madison will face off in the day's other semifinals contest at 6 p.m. Sunday's championship game is slated for a 1 p.m. start time
Freshman Femke Strien (IJsselstein, The Netherlands/Cals College Nieuwegein) registered the first multi-goal game of her career by posting the first two scores of the contest.
Junior Greta Nauck (Krefeld, Germany/Gymnasium am Moltekplatz) added her second straight game with two goals while senior Taylor Lister (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) notched the other tally for the Blue Hens.
Senior Emmeline Oltmans (Baarn, The Netherlands/Het Baarnsch Lyceum) logged five saves for the 60th win of her career.
Laura MacLachlan posted the lone goal of the game for the Huskies while Julia Gluyas collected a career-high 11 saves.
POST-GAME QUOTES
“Congratulations to our team on winning the CAA regular season title with a 6-0 record in a convincing way today. As we concluded our regular season, it is fair to say we learned and improved a lot as players, team, staff and program. In my observation we are currently at our best performance, health and depth-wise. Good timing with the 'November Madness' post season CAA and NCAA action coming up! We are very excited to host the CAA Tournament this coming weekend. I know our team is looking forward to welcoming the support of many Blue Hen and field hockey fans for some top-notch action at Rullo Stadium. Hope to see you in Newark on Friday.”
