PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Four players scored in double figures, but Delaware came up on the wrong end of Saturday's 90-87 double overtime heartbreaker to Saint Peter's at Saint Joseph's Hagan Arena.
With the loss, UD falls to 2-3 on the year and will face Eastern Illinois at 2 p.m. Sunday in the consolation game of the 24th Annual Hawk Classic.
Junior Nicole Enabosi (Gaithersburg, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) registered a career-high 27 points to go along with 16 rebounds for her third double double of the season while sophomore Samone DeFreese (Bergenfield, N.J./Berkshire (Mass.)) notched 11 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double double. Enabosi added five assists and a season-high three blocked shots.
Sophomore Abby Gonzales (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) contributed a career-high 18 points to go along with six assists and four rebounds while classmate Bailey Kargo (Greensboro, N.C./Walter Hines Page) recorded 12 points, four assists and two steals.
In a game that featured 16 lead changes and 13 tied scores, the Blue Hens led by one with 1:37 remaining in the contest, but saw the Peacocks (3-2) tally four unanswered points as time wound down.
Talah Hughes led Saint Peter's with 22 points and 12 rebounds while four total Peacocks reached double figure scoring totals.
POST-GAME QUOTES
Natasha Adair
“We started flat and I didn't like our energy throughout the game. We made some runs, but we missed a lot of bunnies around the rim. And down the stretch, free throws were really important. In the end it was our defense; we didn't get the stops we needed at times. Every possession matters and every possession counts. No game is going to be easy for us, but we need to find a way to finish. It's one of those things you have to continue to grow and mature through these experiences.”
