GAME PREVIEW
Welcome to Delaware Stadium and Game #2 of today's non-league doubleheader as the Blue Hens (1-1) take on No. 17 ranked Navy (0-2).
Delaware (1-1), which dropped a tough 14-13 decision to Bucknell in its season opener here at Delaware Stadium on Feb. 4, returns to action today looking to continue the momentum built from last Saturday's 18-5 romp at Mt. St. Mary's.
The Blue Hens led 6-3 at halftime but exploded for nine goals on just 15 shots in the third quarter to take control and post their most one-sided victory in five years.
Blue Hen senior Trupert Ortlieb exploded for a career-high six goals to lead the assault while Andrew Romagnoli scored four times and Charlie Kitchen found the net three times. GK Parker Ferrigan made eight saves and Jake Hervada and Sam Walsh combined to win 17 of 24 faceoffs for the contest.
The Hens scored their highest goal total since an 18-6 win over Holy Cross last March 3 and had their most one-sided win since a 19-6 victory over Detroit in the 2012 season opener.
No. 17 ranked Navy (0-2) enters today's game still looking for its first win of the season after hard-fought setbacks of 15-8 to No. 8 Johns Hopkins on Feb. 7 and 15-12 to No. 2 Maryland last Saturday. Jack Ray and Colin Flounlacker each scored twice with Ryan Wade dishing out four assists.
In the setback to the Terrapins, the Mids trailed just 6-5 at the break but could not finish off the upset. Wade scored four times and dished out three assists.
