NEWARK, Del. – Sophomore Nicole Enabosi (Gaithersburg, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) registered her 14th double double of the season, but it wasn't enough as Delaware fell, 57-48, to Elon Friday evening at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Despite the loss, the Hens (14-13, 8-8 CAA) have secured a spot in the upcoming CAA Tournament as either a four, five or six seed.
Delaware senior Erika Brown (Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) led all players with 14 points while Enabosi posted 12 points and 12 rebounds to go along with two assists, a blocked shot and a steal. Brown added seven rebounds and three assists for the Blue Hens.
The Hens crept within five points with just under two minutes left in the contest, but Elon was able to knock down free throws in the remaining time.
Essence Baucom and Jenifer Rhodes each collected 11 points for the Phoenix, who improved to 22-6 overall. With a 14-2 conference record, Elon is tied atop the CAA standings with James Madison.
“We kept ourselves in the game tonight with our rebounding. That was a major key if we were going to try and steal one from the top team in the CAA. I thought we really battled on the boards. We had some good looks, but we just weren't able to knock them down. Elon is a veteran team that plays really well together. We hung around, but we just couldn't get it down to a one-possession game to put some pressure on them.”
