NEWARK, Del. – A tough second quarter ended up being the difference Sunday afternoon as the Blue Hens six-game winning streak came to an end with a 54-44 loss to Drexel at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Down by just four at the end of the first quarter, the Dragons (16-6, 7-4 CAA) shot 50.0 percent from the floor to outscore the Hens, 23-10. Delaware held Drexel to just 15 second half points, but it was too little too late.
Sophomore Nicole Enabosi (Gaithersburg, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) led the Blue Hens (13-9, 7-4 CAA) with 17 points and 10 rebounds for her seventh double double in nine games.
Senior Erika Brown (at left; Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) added eight points, two rebounds and two assists.
Sarah Curran guided the Dragons with 20 points and six rebounds while Jessica Pellechio contributed 11 of her own. The pair combined to shoot 6-of-14 from behind the 3-point line for Drexel.
“We've been so good defensively lately, but today our defensive rotation was not as quick as it's been and we didn't react as well as we have been. We didn't do a good job of reading plays and we had our own offensive struggles. Drexel is a great team with great senior leadership.”
Senior Erika Brown
“We didn't show up in the second quarter and our defense just wasn't there. They got all the shots and looks that they wanted. Our offense also struggled today. We missed a lot of open shots we typically make. We just couldn't get it going.”
