PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Delaware softball team will look to continue its momentum this weekend when the Blue Hens make the short trip north for a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series with Drexel.
Due to inclement weather in the area, the teams will now play a single game on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. and a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 2 p.m. at Drexel's Vidas Athletic Complex. Live stats will be available for all three games at DrexelStats.com, while Saturday's game will be livestreamed at DrexelDragons.tv.
Delaware enters the weekend with a 12-13 overall record and a 2-1 mark in conference play, and the Blue Hens have won 10 of their last 11 games including four straight. UD opened league action last weekend by taking two of three games against Towson, and swept a twinbill from Coppin State on Thursday. Drexel is 8-10 overall and 0-3 in the CAA after getting swept at UNCW last weekend, although the Dragons swept St. Peter's in their home-opening doubleheader on Thursday.
Anna Steinmetz leads the CAA with seven homers and 57 total bases this season, while she ranks third in the conference with a .390 batting average. Giovanna Kolofer, who went a perfect 7 for 7 at the plate against Coppin State, has increased her average to .375 and is tied with Steinmetz for the team lead with 30 hits. Leanna Gearhart is hitting .346 for the Blue Hens with a team-leading 19 runs scored, and she currently ranks second in the CAA with 13 stolen bases.
Jordan Cargile, who has won seven consecutive decisions, is now 9-7 with a 3.74 earned run average in the circle, while Taylor Curran is 2-1 with a team-best 3.65 ERA.
Linda Rush paces the Drexel offense with a .396 batting average, six doubles, four homers and 16 RBI, while Taylor Kent is hitting .345 with a team-leading 15 runs scored and seven steals. Katie Haley is 2-4 with a 2.56 ERA in the circle for the Dragons, while Tara Konopka is 3-4 with a 3.77 ERA.
Delaware leads the all-time series with Drexel, 45-40-1, and swept a three-game series from the Dragons last season in Newark.
