Bailey, Francis Win Individual Titles as Blue Hens Shine at Colonial Relays Finale

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The University of Delaware women's outdoor track & field squad closed out action at the Colonial Relays at William & Mary Saturday with two first place finishes, five other top 10 showings, and three ECAC qualifying performances.
Delaware earned 45 team points over the three-day event and placed sixth overall out of 45 schools. Bucknell won the team title with 65 points followed by Norfolk State, Duquesne, host William & Mary, and Rutgers.
“We were very pleased with our performances this weekend,” said Delaware head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith. “The season is moving along and we are excited to be on our home field next weekend (Delaware Open on Apr. 8).”
Bringing home first place performances for the Blue Hens were senior Jade Francis and sophomore Ashley Bailey. Francis won the shot put with a toss of 41-feet, 9.75 inches while Bailey won the pole vault competition with a career-best, ECAC-qualifying height of 12-5.5.
Also for the Blue Hens, the 4 x 400m relay team of Tyra Reid, London Freeland, Nadia Khoury, and Carly Pettipaw was second with an ECAC-qualifying time of 3:48.54; Rachel Moroknek was third in the pole vault (10-6); the 4 x 800m relay team of Michaela Meyer, Angie Spadaccini, Betsy Erlanger, and Jeanette Bendolph was fifth (9:21.91); the sprint medley relay team of Reid, Freeland, Carolyn Darr, and Pettipaw was fifth (4:04.66); the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Andriene Rose, Isis Pinkney, Haley Berkeley, and Tyler Jackson, was seventh with an ECAC-qualifying time of 47.78; and Nadia Khoury was eighth in the high jump (5-3).
