The Blue Hens held Hofstra to just one goal in the final 20 minutes of action en route to a dominating 17-9 victory over the Pride in Sunday afternoon's CAA lid-lifter at Delaware Stadium. UD, which held a slim 8-6 margin at halftime, outscored HU, 9-3, in the second half, including a 14-minute stretch of eight straight goals. Jamie Schwartz led all players with a career-best seven points on four goals and three assists. The attacker opened the game by setting a new school record by registering a goal just 10 seconds in to the contest. The Hens (6-5, 1-0 CAA) also received a hat trick from Coley Ricci, who posted three goals and an assist to go along with three draw controls. In total, seven Blue Hens tallied at least two points on the day, including Sydney Rausa, who finished with four points on two goals and two assists. Mary Abram and Chantae Simms guided the defense with four ground balls apiece while Abram added two caused turnovers. Taylor Carpentier collected eight saves and a ground ball in the win.
· Delaware will be featured on April 14 as the CAA Game of the Week on Lax sports Network as the Blue Hens play at William & Mary.
SERIES INFORMATION 💪
· Delaware is 12-12 all-time against this weekend's opponents.
· The all-time series between the Hens and Tribe is knotted up at 11-11.
· UD has won five straight over W&M.
· In the last matchup in Williamsburg, Delaware defeated William & Mary, 13-7, to clinch a spot in the CAA Tournament.
· Last season, the Hens had 11 different players score at least one point as UD concluded regular season play with a 17-7 triumph over the Tribe at Delaware Stadium. Jamie Schwartz and Kara Dattellas led all scorers with five points on two goals and three assists apiece.
· The Blue Hens and Phoenix match up for just the third time in program history with both teams capturing a win on their home turf.
· Last season, Elon held Delaware without a goal for more than 38 minutes en route to a 5-4 overtime win at Rudd Field. Becky Gohsler led the Hens with two goals to go along with two ground balls and a draw control.
Kateri Linville (Delaware '03) has led the Blue Hens to four consecutive winning seasons and an overall record of 61-52 (.540).
· Hillary Fratzke (Towson '10) is in her fourth season as the head coach of the Tribe. During her tenure, W&M has logged a record of 19-42.
· Josh Hexter (Assumption '95) is 34-29 in his fourth season as the first head coach in Elon's program history. Prior to joining the Phoenix, Hexter spent eight years as an assistant coach and eventually associate head coach with Duke women's lacrosse.
ABOUT WILLIAM & MARY
· The Tribe opened its conference slate with a pair of setbacks on the road against No. 14 Towson and No. 18 James Madison.
· As a team, W&M currently leads the CAA in draw controls per game (13.31), ground balls per (20.15) and saves per (9.0).
· Individually, senior Abby Junior ranks sixth nationally in caused turnovers per game (2.83) and 13th with 3.42 ground balls per.
· Senior Lindsey Jenks leads the Tribe with 41 points and 32 goals and is second with 30 draw controls.
· Senior Alex Lista has started all 13 games in the cage for W&M and has allowed 12.27 goals per game with 79 saves in 514 minutes of play. Freshman Elsa Rall has also appeared in nine games with a 13.39 GAA in 256 minutes and 37 saves.
ABOUT ELON
· The Phoenix, which ranked as high as #14 in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and No. 18 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll this season, is riding a three-game losing streak.
· Elon enters the weekend with a CAA matchup against Drexel on Friday at home.
· All of Elon's losses this season have come to ranked opponents.
· Junior Stephanie Asher currently leads the CAA with 3.15 goals per game and is the team-leader with 48 points on 41 goals and seven assists to go along with 23 draw controls.
· Sophomore Sloane Kessler is second for the Phoenix with 36 points on 18 goals and a team-best 18 assists.
· Defensively, junior Abby Godfrey has tallied 25 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers while senior goalie Rachel Ramirez holds a 10.12 GAA with 99 saves (.442).
