Delaware Travels To Elon For Key CAA Weekend Series

ELON, N.C. --The University of Delaware softball team heads south for the second consecutive weekend as the Blue Hens travel to Elon for a key three-game Colonial Athletic Association weekend set with the Phoenix.
The Blue Hens and Phoenix will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and a 1 p.m. single game on Sunday, with live video and live stats available for all three contests.
Delaware enters the series with a 19-24 overall record, and the Blue Hens currently reside in sixth place in the league standings with a 6-9 mark. Elon, which is 30-17 overall, is a game and a half in front of Delaware in fifth place with a 7-7 conference record. The top five teams advance to the CAA Tournament on May 10-12 in Harrisonburg, Va.
The Blue Hens are coming off a doubleheader split at Delaware State on Wednesday, as Mariah Kondravy finished with six hits, three doubles and six RBI while Alyshia Dellatore added four hits, a homer and four RBI. Anna Steinmetz and Mattie Nuccio each posted three hits and two RBI on the afternoon, while Giovanna Kolofer scored three runs.
Steinmetz leads Delaware with a .383 batting average, a CAA-best 11 home runs and 40 RBI, while Kondravy is batting .353 with a league-leading 16 doubles. Leanna Gearhart is batting .344 for the Blue Hens with a conference-high 26 stolen bases, while Mattie Nuccio has hit safely in six consecutive games to raise her average to .333 on the year.
Alaina Hall paces the Elon lineup with a .389 batting average, which ranks sixth in the CAA, and 58 hits, third most in the league. Carey Million is hitting .338 and ranks second in the conference with 45 RBI, while Hannah Olson is also second in the CAA with 38 runs scored. Kiandra Mitchum leads the Phoenix pitching staff with a 2.20 ERA, which ranks third in the league, while her 164 strikeouts are second most in the conference.
Delaware leads the all-time series with Elon, 6-4, and posted an 8-2 victory over the Phoenix in the CAA Tournament during the teams' only meeting last year.
Following the weekend series, the Blue Hens close their regular season with a road doublehader at Monmouth on Wednesday and a three-game home set with UNCW next Friday and Saturday.
