NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware women's outdoor track & field squad dominated the action at the wind-swept Delaware Open Saturday afternoon as the Blue Hens won 10 events to storm past the field at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium.
Competing on a day in which gusty winds never died down, Delaware came out on top in a meet that
included 29 collegiate men' and women's teams and numerous track clubs and took nearly nine hours to complete.
Delaware picked up 197 total points, easily outdistancing runner-up Towson with 66 points. Monroe College was third with 44 points followed by Coppin State and Temple in the 15-team field.
On the men's side, Salisbury University won the team title with 124 points to outdistance Wesley, Stockton, Delaware State, St. Peter's, and Monroe in the 14-team field.
“We had a great day,” said Delaware head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith. “The wind was working against us but I was very pleased with the turnout. I want to thank all the teams, alumni, friends, and supporters who came out for the event.”
The Blue Hens had four multiple winners on the day highlighted by junior Sarah Hillman who won both the shot put (47-1.5) and discus (171-6) and broke both of her school records in those events in the process.
