HEN SCRATCHINGS 🐔
• RANKED RARITY: Thursday's matchup with No. 11 Georgetown is just the 10th matchup versus a ranked opponent in the programs 28-year history. The Blue Hens are 0-8-1 in the nine all-time matchups against ranked teams. The Blue Hens last faced a ranked opponent back in 2015, dropping a 6-1 decision at No. 2 Virginia. Thursday night is the first home match versus a ranked opponent since Sep. 26, 2006 when Delaware faced No. 18 William & Mary. The Hoyas are the highest ranked opponent to visit Newark since 2000 when UD faced off with No. 8 Hartford.
• DÉJÀ VU: For the second consecutive season, the Blue Hens dropped the season opener at Villanova by a single goal. A year ago, sophomore Jillian Vassallo scored the Blue Hens first goal of the season in the 3-2 defeat. Sunday, Vassallo also scored the first goal of the year, as her 46th minute strike gave UD a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats tied the game in the 69th minute sending the season opener into overtime for the second time in three years. Villanova eventually tallied the game-winner just 77 seconds into the first overtime period.
• REKOS MAKING HER MARK: Blue Hens goalkeeper Kailyn Rekos is climbing the all-time UD record book, as the redshirt senior is now top-five all-time in games played (44), games started (44), career minutes played (4,034), saves per-game (4.84), and all-time saves (213). Rekos is just 11 starts/games played away for the second most as a goalie in program history and is 236 minutes away from the third most all-time minutes played. Her next victory will be her 16th career victory, and will tie her for fifth most all-time. Rekos' next save will move her into third place on the all-time saves list.
• ON THE MEND: Redshirt sophomore Riley Curtin and redshirt senior Andrea Gunderson both made their first appearances in a game in almost two years, Sunday. Gunderson and Curtin both suffered season ending knee injuries during preseason training last year.
