Barroqueiro, Delaware Women's Soccer Announce Mid-Year Addition of Sara D'Appolonia

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware women's soccer program and head coach Mike Barroqueiro announced the addition of the reigning Maine Gatorade Women's Soccer Player of the Year Sara D'Appolonia, Tuesday. D'Appolonia (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) is enrolled for the 2018 spring semester and will be eligible to compete for the Blue Hens when they open spring practice.
“Sara was a player that we targeted early in our recruiting process for this class," Barroqueiro said. "She has an incredibly high soccer IQ and reads the game as well as any player I've ever recruited. Her ability to anticipate the play, which is an underrated quality in our country these days, combined with what she does off the ball allows her to be so successful. A native of Portland, Maine, D'Appolonia joins Delaware women's soccer after a heralded four-year career at Yarmouth high school where she was a standout both on the pitch and the hardwood.
