NEWARK, Del. – For a team that has been playing and fighting for each other since the first week of August, the University of Delaware women's soccer team didn't want to see its season end just yet.
On Tuesday night, the Blue Hens' season got extended when their ticket to the 2018 CAA Tournament was punched when Elon earned a tie against UNCW, to give the sixth and final spot in the postseason to Delaware.
It's the first CAA Tournament berth for the Blue Hens since 2015.
The sixth-seeded Blue Hens will take on third-seeded Hofstra at Northeastern on Friday, October 26 at 1 p.m. The winner will face the second-seeded Huskies on Sunday, October 28 at 1 p.m.
Delaware finished the season strong, going unbeaten in the final three games of the year with a 2-0-1 record and an impressive 1-1 tie to end the season against CAA regular season champion JMU.
The Blue Hens were competitive in every CAA game this fall with seven of the nine being decided by one goal or less. Delaware's defense allowed just 1.06 goals against average in the nine league games.
