RICHMOND, Va. – Throughout the 2018 season, the members of the University of Delaware women's soccer program has personified the true meaning of team.
Three key members of that team were honored for their individual accomplishments on Thursday when Riley Dixon, Olivia Schuck and Toni Starova all earned spots on All-CAA squads. Dixon was named to the Second Team, Schuck a member of the Third Team and Starova earned a spot on the All-Rookie squad.
"It's always exciting when players get recognized for their accomplishments. I'm proud of Riley, Olivia and Toni for all their hard work over the course of the season," head coach Mike Barroqueiro said. "The best part about each of these kids is that they genuinely understand that any recognition is not only reflective of their hard work, but also the work of everyone else around them. They embody each one of our team traits: hard-working, high-energy, hungry and especially humble."
Dixon led the Blue Hens in goals (4), assists (3) and points (11), including having a hand in five of Delaware's final six goals of the year during its run to the CAA Tournament.
Schuck was a key member of the Delaware defensive unit, while adding a goal of her own on the year. In CAA play, the Blue Hens limited the opposition to just 1.06 goals per game and seven of their nine league games were decided by one goal or less.
Starova was a jolt right when the Blue Hens needed it, coming back from a shoulder injury to play the final four games of the year, helping Delaware go unbeaten in the final three games and earn a spot in the CAA Tournament. In those games, she scored the game-winner at UNCW and added an assist.
The Blue Hens start their CAA Tournament quest on Friday when they take on third-seeded Hofstra at Northeastern. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
