NEWARK, Del. – Five Blue Hens scored in double figures as Delaware never trailed while cruising to a 100-62 home opening win over Chestnut Hill Tuesday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Senior guard Darian Bryant led the way for Delaware (2-1) with a career-high 18 points, while Eric Carter added 15 points and seven rebounds. Kevin Anderson contributed 13 points, nine boards and four assists, Jacob Cushing chipped in 13 points, and Ithiel Horton added 10 of his own.
Delaware shot 54.7 percent from the floor, knocked down 11 three-pointers, and held a 48-41 rebounding edge.
Ed McWade and Keyon Butler each scored 11 points for Chestnut Hill (1-2), while Cartier Talford contributed 10 on the night.
The Blue Hens led by just two points at 18-16 with 12:31 to play in the opening half but exploded for a 23-2 run, going in front 41-18 following an Anderson layup with three minutes on the clock. Bryant converted a fast break three-point play just before the halftime buzzer as Delaware took a 50-28 advantage into the break.
The Griffins scored the first four points of the second half, but Delaware countered with the next 13 to go up 63-32 and cruised the rest of the way.
Head Coach Martin Ingelsby
"It was night to give a lot of guys confidence. Obviously we were excited to play in our building in front of our family, friends and fans. It was a great night for Ithiel Horton, Matt Veretto, and Davis Long to get out there and give us some good minutes. I think it was important to get into a flow on the offensive end, and I really challenged our guys about defending and rebounding in our building."
