RICHMOND, Va. – Blue Hen freshman defender Timo Hummrich was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Soccer Rookie of the Year and to the All-CAA first team as the league announced its all-conference awards on Friday.
UD junior midfielder Fede Prieto and senior defender John Schroeder were each selected to the All-CAA second team, while senior midfielder Robert Gillin was named to the third team. Additionally, Hummrich was also a CAA All-Rookie Team selection.
Hummrich (Berlin, Germany/Hertha BSC) becomes the fourth Blue Hen in school history to earn CAA Rookie of the Year honors, joining Sobhan Tadjalli in 2004 Roberto Giménez in 2011 and Guillermo Delgado in 2013. A three-time CAA Rookie of the Week honoree, he leads the team with four goals on the season, including three game-winners. Hummrich scored both goals in UD's 2-1 overtime win over Charleston, scored the only goal of the match in the 1-0 shutout at Elon, and headed home a goal in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Northeastern.
Schroeder (Houston, Texas/YSC Academy) has appeared in all 16 matches in the Blue Hen backfield, tying for the team lead with two assists. He scored his lone goal of the season at 11th-ranked UNCW, helping the Blue Hens earn an important draw with the Seahawks. Schroeder, who earns All-CAA honors for the third consecutive year, assisted on Jake Steinberg's game-winning overtime goal at Drexel and added an assist in the triumph over Northeastern.
Prieto (Las Rozas de Madrid, Spain/IES Carmen Conde) earns his second All-CAA second team accolade despite appearing in just seven regular season matches due to an injury. He notched two goals on the season, scoring the Blue Hens' opening goals against both Drexel and UNCW.
Gillin (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee), who has appeared in and started all but one match this season, was named third team All-CAA for the third straight year. He has tallied eight shots on the season while leading the Blue Hen midfield unit.
Delaware has earned the fourth seed in the CAA Tournament, and will host fifth-seeded William & Mary in a quarterfinal match at Grant Stadium on Saturday at 7 p.m.
