Eric Carter, Ithiel Horton Earn CAA Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – Blue Hen senior forward Eric Carter was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Basketball Player of the Week while freshman guard Ithiel Horton earned league Rookie of the Week honors on Monday.
Carter (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) led the Blue Hens by averaging 18.7 points and 11.0 rebounds during UD's three wins last week. He shot 20 of 33 (60.6%) from the field, went 16 of 21 from the foul line, and handed out nine assists.
Carter posted game-highs of 23 points and eight rebounds in last Monday's 75-71 victory over Louisiana Tech, and recorded his second double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-best 10 rebounds in the 71-62 win at UMES on Friday. He then notched his second straight double-double with team-bests of 21 points and a career high-tying 15 rebounds in Sunday's 87-86 double overtime triumph at Columbia.
Carter currently ranks second in the CAA and 23rd in the nation with a 63.8 field goal percentage this season, is third in the conference with 9.6 rebounds per game, and is sixth with an 18.1 scoring average. He ranks third in Blue Hen history with a 55.7 career field goal percentage and is 18th with 593 career rebounds.
Horton (Vauxhall, N.J./Roselle Catholic) averaged 18.3 points during the Blue Hens' three victories, going 11 of 23 (47.8%) from three-point range and leading the team with six steals. He scored 18 points and hit all seven of his free throw attempts against Louisiana Tech, and led UD with 17 points while hitting four three-pointers at UMES. Horton scored a season-high 20 points and again buried four triples while playing all 50 minutes at Columbia.
Horton, who ranks second on the Blue Hens and 18th in the CAA with 13.1 points per game and has reached double figures in seven consecutive contests, is the leading freshman scorer in the conference. He also is fourth in the league with a 46.5 three-point field goal percentage and eighth with 2.2 three-pointers made per game.
Delaware, which is 7-2 on the season following three straight wins, is off to its best start through nine games since the 1999-2000 season. The Blue Hens are back home this week to host Navy on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
