HEN SCRATCHINGS 🐔
• The Blue Hens open their home schedule this weekend by hosting Cornell and Villanova in the Blue Hen Invitiational.
• In addition to Delaware's four games, the Big Red and Wildcats will play at 10 a.m. both days.
• Anna Steinmetz led Delaware with a .438 batting average and seven hits last weekend at the Liberty Classic. She also posted six RBI, four doubles and three runs and now has scored 11 runs on the year, tied for the team lead with Leanna Gearhart. Steinmetz is tied for first in the CAA with five home runs on the season, and is the school's leader with 31 homers.
• Gearhart batted .333 while recording four runs and seven RBI over the weekend. Her four runs were the most by a Blue Hen in the tournament, and her career-high 138 are the most in school history. She stole two bases last weekend and is tied for second best in the CAA with seven on the season, while the 95 in her career are the most in UD history.
• Mariah Kondravy also batted .333 for the Blue Hens and had five hits, becoming the third UD player ever to surpass 200 career hits. She hit four doubles on the weekend and is the school's leader with a career-high 49. Kondravy slammed a home run at the tournament and ranks second in school history with 27 career homers.
• Chayanna Gallardo posted three hits and four RBI on the weekend, earning CAA Softball Rookie of the Week honors. She batted .308 and posted a team-leading three doubles at the tournament. Gallardo has appeared in all 18 games for the Blue Hens while starting 16 as a catcher and designated player.
• Pitcher Sarah Piening picked up Delaware's lone win in the circle after allowing two runs against Ohio University.
SERIES INFORMATION 💪
• Cornell leads the all-time series over Delaware, 6-3, but the Blue Hens posted a 5-4 victory over the Big Red during their last meeting in 2015 at the UD Softball Stadium.
• Villanova holds a 23-40-1 advantage over UD. The Blue Hens and Wildcats have met every season since 2002.
