SOUTHPORT, N.C. – The two-time defending champion University of Delaware women's golf team seeks its third straight conference title this weekend when the Blue Hens compete in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship.
Delaware is one of eight teams that will participate in the three-day tournament, which will be held on the par 72, 6,066-yard Reserve Club course at St. James Plantation. Friday and Saturday rounds will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the first tee, while Sunday's final round will begin at 8 a.m. with split tees, followed by the awards ceremony.
UD will compete in the league championship along with Charleston, Elon, Hofstra, James Madison, UNCW, Towson and William & Mary. The winning team will secure a trip to the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship in May.
The Blue Hens captured their first conference title in school history two years ago by posting an eight-shot victory with two top-three individual finishers. Last year Delaware posted an 11-shot victory to defend its CAA Championship and capture its second straight crown. Sophomore Ariane Klotz led UD with a third-place individual finish last year with a two over par 76-72-70-218.
Delaware is looking to become the first team to win three consecutive CAA titles since James Madison in 2003-05.
Klotz ranks second on the Blue Hen squad with a 74.24 average round this season and has posted a team-high six top 10 finishes on the year while appearing in every tournament for Delaware. Freshman Thitaree Sakulbunpanich leads the team with an average round of 73.94 and has appeared in six events on the year, while Ashley Dingman is third with a 76.45 average round while competing in all 10 tournaments.
Junior Valentina Mueller (76.72) has also appeared in all 10 tournaments for the Blue Hens while Isabella Rimton (80.00) has participated in all but two.
Delaware has recorded top 10 finishes in all but one tournament on the year while posting three second place finishes.
