GAINESVILLE, Fla. – While most college students spent their Spring Break in Florida on the beaches and relaxing, the University of Delaware track & field team was busy breaking records and reaching new heights.
Four Blue Hens reached ECAC-qualifying marks, while three jumped into the top-10 in school history and four set new personal bests against some of the country's best competition at the Florida Relays in Gainesville this past week.
Senior London Freeland was right in the middle of the action this weekend, qualifying for the ECAC Championships in two events, the 400m hurdles and the 4x400 relay. In the hurdles, she clocked in at 1:02.41 to earn the mark, while she teamed up with Carly Pettipaw, Sydni Stovall, and Jeanette Bendolph to break the line in 3:51.26 in 4x400.
Pettipaw also qualified in the 400m hurdles as well, clocking in at 1:01.26, just off her personal best for the junior.
Senior Liz McGroarty continued her outstanding final campaign for the Blue Hens, setting a new personal best with a time of 2:08.74, which qualified her for the ECAC Championships and was the second best time in school history.
The 4x800 relay of Michaela Meyer, Susanna Weir, Angie Spadaccini and Madeline Berman were the final ECAC qualifiers at the meet for the Blue Hens, running a time of 9:12.89.
Sophomore Analise Kaminski put down the sixth fastest time in the 3000m steeplechase, clocking in at 11:23.62, while freshman Taliah Cintron claimed the 10th fastest 400m hurdle time, breaking the line at 1:03.83.
Stovall won her heat in the 400m with a time of 57.15, a new collegiate personal best, while junior Andriene Rose (25.15) and senior Isis Pinkney (25.16) grabbed personal bests in the 200m at the meet.
Delaware returns to action this weekend when they will face off against a lot of their CAA brethren at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va. The meet gets started on Thursday night and runs through Saturday evening.
