THE WEEK THAT WAS: The Blue Hens enter this week with a record of 20-17, having won six of their last nine games. This past week the Blue Hens went 3-2, winning a game against Saint Joseph's and a pair of games against CAA rival James Madison. Delaware began the week with a 9-4 loss against Lafayette in the Liberty Bell Classic Championship game. The Hens quickly rebounded Wednesday defeating Saint Joseph's 8-5. In that game
FRESH ACCLAIM: Delaware freshman Jordan Hutchins was named CAA Rookie of the Week the conference announced Monday. The Dover native hit .474 (9-19) with at least one hit in all five games. The Delaware native went 2-4 in Delaware's LBC game Tuesday before turning in the most productive day of his young career Wednesday against Saint Joseph's, where he went 3-5 with three RBI. The infielder recorded three multiple hit games including a 2-4 performance Friday where he drove in a pair of runs. Hutchins is Delaware's second CAA Rookie of the Week honoree this season and is the third Delaware honoree in the last two weeks.
MIDWEEK MANIA: The Blue Hens are currently 5-0 in mid-week afternoon contests this season. The Hens went 4-4 a season ago in mid-week games. Delaware defeated Maryland 7-1 back on 3/8 and completed the series sweep with a 7-6 victory on 3/13. The Hens earned their third-midweek victory of the season at La Salle and the fourth-midweek victory at Lehigh. Delaware's fifth victory in the mid-week was last Wednesday's 8-5 victory over Saint Joseph's.
BEHIND ENEMY LINES: Delaware State enters Tuesday with a record of 8-29, having won three consecutive games. The Blue Hens and Hornets are meeting for the fourth time this season. Back in March, Delaware swept a three-game series from Delaware State. Darnell Maisonet leads Delaware St. both in ERA (2.65) and batting average (.327). At the dish, Maisonet leads DSU in average, home runs (5) and on-base percentage (.446). This past weekend Delaware St. swept a series from Maryland Eastern Shore.
