RICHMOND, Va.– Heading in to the last game of the regular season, the Blue Hens midfield unit, which has performed well all season, needed to come through one more time to help propel Delaware in to the CAA tournament for the first time since 2014.
Senior midfield captain Will Hirschmann stepped his game up to another level in Friday night's 17-8 victory over the Drexel Dragons en route to earning himself the honor of CAA Player of the Week.
Hirschmann scored a head-turning seven goals and added an assist.
His performance in the regular season finale brought his season totals to 25 goals and 13 assists, which ranks him seventh in the CAA with 38 points. He also notched his 50thcareer goal to put another exclamation point on the night.
The honor is the second for Hirschmann this year after winning the accolade the first week of the season (Feb. 13).
With their win over Drexel, Delaware locked up the third seed in the CAA tournament. The Blue Hens will face off against rival Towson at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, in the first round of the CAA tournament.
