Bailey Wraps Up Historic Season at NCAA East Prelims

TAMPA, Fla. – Junior Ashley Bailey soared to new heights in 2018. Literally.
The Middletown, Del. native wrapped up her historic season at NCAA East Prelims on Friday after becoming just the third pole vaulter in program history to advance to that stage.
Bailey set school records in both the indoor and outdoor seasons, including clearing 13' 2 ½” earlier this spring to qualify for the postseason event.
She won a total of 10 times in 2018, including the CAA title in the pole vault. It was the just the third conference title in the pole vault in school history (Carol Oliveri – 1999 America East champion, Casey Bennett, 2005 CAA champion).
“We're incredibly proud of Ashley's accomplishments this year. She worked extremely hard each and every day and pushed not only herself and her teammates to be the best that they could be. We're very excited about what the future has in store for her,” head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith said.
Bailey finished 32ndat the East Prelims, clearing 12' 4 ¾”, but came up just short of clearing 12' 10 ¾” on her three tries.
