NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware's cross country program and head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith announced its 2018 schedule on Monday afternoon, highlighted by five competitive regular season meets to prepare the Blue Hens for the CAA and NCAA Championships.Â
Â
"We are extremely excited and anxious to build on our successes for the upcoming cross country season," McFarlane-Smith said. "Our student-athletes will be exposed to different level competition this fall. With our newcomers, returning student-athletes and staff, we will definitely have more consistency so that we can set higher goals. We are confident in who we having returning and joining us and look to contend for a top three team finish in the CAA Championship and a top 16 standing in the NCAA Regional Championship."
Â
The schedule, which consists of eight meets over a span of 11 weeks, begins with a trip to Bethpage, New York for the Hofstra/Adelphi University Invitational (Aug. 31), followed by the program's annual Delaware Invitational (Sept. 15).
Â
Delaware then will come to a unique part of its schedule as they will split the team into two groups, with several student-athletes packing their bags to participate in the Nuttycomb Wisconsin Invitational (Sept. 27-28), hosted by Wisconsin University, while the other part of the team competes in the prestigious Paul Short Run (Sept. 28), hosted by Lehigh University.
Â
The Blue Hens soon after will come back together for the Blue and Gold Invitational (Oct. 6) at White Clay Creek State Park, which will cap the end of the team's regular season schedule.Â
Â
They will then participate in the CAA Championships (Oct. 25-26) before traveling to Penn State for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional (Nov. 8-9).Â
