Blue Hens Earn AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Being great is not something that the University of Delaware volleyball program talks about solely on the court. That message is expressed across all aspects of being a Blue Hen.
This week, the Blue Hens were honored for being great in the classroom, earning the AVCA Team Academic Award, given to collegiate and high school teams that maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average for the entire school year.
"As a program, we are focused on striving for excellence and helping our student-athletes become the best they can be in all aspects," head coach Sara Matthews said. "I'm proud of the hard work and dedication that our student-athletes put forth in the classroom this past year and can't thank our support staff enough for all they do to help our student-athletes perform at the highest level."
Delaware's cumulative team GPA of 3.38 for the 2017-18 year was the highest in program history.
The Blue Hens were one of 163 Division I programs to be honored, a record high for the award that was initiated in 1992-93.
