NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware men's basketball head coach Martin Ingelsby has announced that Ryan Johnson has joined the Blue Hens program as a graduate transfer.
Johnson, a 6-5 guard who played his previous two years at Mercer, will be eligible for the Blue Hens this upcoming season. He appeared in 29 games for the Bears in 2017-18, averaging 2.3 points and 1.3 rebounds per game while adding 12 assists and 10 steals. Johnson scored a season-high 11 points in a win over Toccoa Falls for Mercer, which finished 19-15 overall and 11-7 in the Southern Conference.
Johnson participated in all 32 games for the Bears as a sophomore in 2016-17, when he averaged 3.8 points and 2.5 boards per contest. He redshirted the 2014-15 campaign at Rutgers, before averaging 11.3 points per game the following year at Tallahassee Community College.
A native of Greensboro, N.C., Johnson averaged 27 points, six rebounds and four assists as a senior at New Hope Christian Academy, where he scored over 2,000 points during his three-year career.
"We are very excited to have Ryan Johnson a part of our basketball program," Ingelsby said. "He is an outstanding student-athlete with the ability to assume a leadership role with our team. Ryan is a versatile wing who is capable of impacting the game in many ways and we are thrilled he has decided to be a Blue Hen."
