PURCELLVILLE, Va. – While most college students are prepping for another year back on campus, three members of the University of Delaware baseball program will be vying for a World Championship next week.
Chris Ludman, Justin Tomovich and Jack Dubecq all are members of the Stahl Post One American Legion team that pummeled its way to the World Series with a 10-0 win in the regional final.
It's the first Delaware team to advance to the World Series since the 1976 Stahl Post team, one that head coach Jim Sherman was a member.
Ludman, who was a freshman for the Blue Hens this past season, pitched the championship game, allowing just one hit over five innings of work. Dubecq, who will be a freshman this upcoming year for Delaware, was named the tournament MVP.
Post One will begin play at the eight-team World Series on Thursday, August 16 when they take on the Central Plains regional at 10 a.m. on ESPN3.
Two more games on Friday at 4 p.m. on ESPN3 and Sunday at 1 p.m. on ESPNU wrap up round robin play. The top two division finishers advance to the August 20 semifinals.
The tournament will be held in Shelby, North Carolina.
