Blue Hens Drop 2-0 Road Decision to GW
8/23/2018 9:47:00 PM | Women's Soccer
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Winning on the road is never easy, no matter what the sport.
The University of Delaware women's soccer team has dealt with that task for the first three games of the 2018 season and the Blue Hens once again battled their way through 90 minutes, but fell short to a red-hot George Washington team, 2-0, on a beautiful Thursday evening in the nation's capital.
Delaware controlled possession for much of the first half, holding a potent Colonial offense to just three shots, while the Blue Hens tested the GW keeper on two occasions, but the game remained scoreless at the break.
The Blue Hens had two nice looks on free kicks in the second half, but were unable to convert, while GW was able to find the back of the net twice in the final 45 to secure the victory.
Quotable
"Today was a tough one. We definitely didn't play our best game, but had things under control in the first half," Head Coach Mike Barroqueiro said. "We suffered an injury in the second half and it seemed to take the wind out of our sails and I think we struggled to recover. That being said, we have a young, hungry group that will bounce back. We're looking forward to getting out on Grant for our first home match on Sunday!"
