HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison scored less than five minutes into the match and never looked back as the Dukes posted a 4-0 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Delaware Wednesday night at Sentara Park.
The Dukes (5-2-1, 3-0 CAA) stuck first at the 4:32 mark of the opening half when Aaron Ward-Baptiste scored on a bicycle kick from 10 yards out into the left side of the net. JMU's Tim Estermann then scored from the left side in the 29th minute and the Dukes eventually took a two-goal lead into the half.
Lewix Long IV converted a strike from 18 yards out in the 53rd minute for JMU, before Manuel Ferriol knocked home a shot from eight yards out in the 61st minute to conclude the scoring.
UD goalkeeper Todd Morton made six saves for the Blue Hens (2-6, 1-1 CAA), while T.J. Bush stopped three shots in the JMU goal. The Dukes held a 13-9 shot advantage including a 10-3 margin in shots on goal, while Delaware took six of the seven corner kicks on the night.
Head Coach Ian Hennessy
"We had a good opportunity to go top of the table tonight, but tip our hats to a better JMU side on the night. Our goal continues to be to get to the post-season and give ourselves the chance to play in the playoffs come November, and next week's games are crucial toward achieving this goal."
