BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For nearly 50 years, thousands of distance runners have been taking over Bethlehem, Pa. for a weekend in early October.
This past weekend was no different and among that group was a hungry, focused group from the University of Delaware cross country program.
Coming off a hard training circuit, the Blue Hens showed toughness and resiliency with 10 of 14 runners posting their personal best 6k times, led by an incredible race from redshirt junior Mackenzie Jones.
Jones, who's battled injuries her entire career, posted a career best by over 40 seconds, clocking in at 21:06.1, her previous collegiate best came in 2016 at the Penn State National Open at 21:49.3.

What They Said
"The team is showing big improvements with each race. Those improvements are even more impressive when you consider that they are pretty tired right now. We just got through a tough training block and they didn't get much recovery from their long run just a few days ago, so I'm really excited to see what they do when we go into the next couple races a little more fresh and fine tuned." – Head Coach Ryan Waite
"Mackenzie Jones ran the best cross country race of her college career today. I'm really proud of her for stepping up and leading the team. She has had some bad luck throughout her career so to see her overcome so much and perform the way she did says a lot about who she is as a person." – Head Coach Ryan Waite

The Blue Hens will take an off week before taking on the final two meets of the regular season with runners going to both the Princeton Invitational and the UnderArmour Pre-National Invitational at Indiana State. Both races are set for Saturday, October 19.
