No. 11 Blue Hens Capture Eighth CAA Tournament Title

NEWARK, Del. – No. 11 Delaware scored early and held on Sunday afternoon for its eighth Colonial Athletic Association Championship crown by defeating Northeastern, 2-1, at Fred P. Rullo Stadium.
Delaware moves to 16-3 on the season and earns the CAA's automatic bid to the NCAA Field Hockey Championship. The Blue Hens will find out who they will face in the NCAA Tournament tonight at 10 p.m. ET on the NCAA Selection Show on NCAA.com.
The Blue Hens started the game red hot on offense, tallying two goals in the first quarter to jump out to an early 2-0 lead.
Junior Lotte de Koning, the 2019 CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player scored her fifth goal of the CAA Tournament in the fourth minute to put the Blue Hens on the board first.
In the 15th minute, classmate and All-Tournament Team performer Femke Strien launched the ball over Northeastern goalie Julia Gluyas from approximately 15 years out for her 17th score of the season.
De Koning and Strien joined sophomore Grace Hoepfner and junior Emily Kresho with All-Tournament team accolades.
Redshirt senior Sydney Rhodes collected one save between the pipes for the Blue Hens.
