Men Earn Third Place Finish at Magnus Cup

CLEVELAND – The Delaware swimming & diving teams turned in a big weekend at the Magnus Cup with the women taking second place while the men took home third in the event hosted by Cleveland State.
The women had a score of 1,065 to place second out of 13 teams while the men totaled 953 for the third-place finish out of 10 teams.
Freshman Mira Selling led the charge for the women with two first place finishes and a runner up. She was first to the wall in the 500 free with a time of 4:56.28 and took home the 200 free in 1:49.94. She finished second in the 50 free, 100 free and 200 butterfly.
Selling was also a member of the first-place 800 free relay team that timed in at 7:32.52 and was joined by freshman Natalie Dobrzykowski, senior Ellie Jogani and freshman Marietta Gately.
Dobrzykowski earned a third-place mark in the 200 free with a time of 1:52.27 and sophomore Taylor Draganosky took home the 200 breaststroke in 2:17.90 and was third in the 100 breaststroke.
On the diving side, sophomore Jessica Antonio had a pair of top-five finishes with a score of 278.95 in the 1-meter for fourth and placed fifth in the 3-meter.
Junior Kevin Bargate found himself at each level of the podium this weekend with a win in the 200 free in 1:39.69, while taking second in the 100 free and third in the 200 IM.
Senior Kevin Basch was first to the wall in the 1650 free with a time of 15:45.96 and junior Eric Veit placed second in the 200 backstroke in 2:03.64.
Freshman Doug Vaca brought home fourth in the 1-meter dive with a 276.20 score and was fifth in the 3-meter, marking in at 263.05.
The Blue Hens return to action when the calendar flips to 2020, hosting Drexel Jan. 4 at Rawstrom Natatorium at 1 p.m.
