ANNAPOLIS, Md. – You can never have enough gold.
That seemed to be the mindset of the University of Delaware women's track & field squad this past weekend when the Blue Hens piled up six wins at the Navy Select meet en route to another stellar weekend.
Seniors Carly Pettipaw (800m), Lauren Zodl (mile) and Ashley Bailey (pole vault), along with juniors Michaela Meyer (500m) and Stephanie Bazan (5000m) and freshman Whitney Bailey-Hicks (triple jump) all took home wins for the Blue Hens.
Pettipaw grabbed the win in the 800m with a time of 2:11.34, good for second-best time in program history and a spot in the ECAC Championships next month. Sophomore Sydni Stovall was right behind her, clocking in at 2:16.56, good for fourth-place and the 10thbest time in school history.
Zodl got the weekend starter with an ECAC qualifying time of 4:59.04, good for the win in the mile and the eighth-best time in school history.
Bailey picked up her 22ndcareer victory in the pole vault, clearing 12' 3 ½". Also in the field events, freshman Whitney Bailey-Hicks brought home a win for the second straight week in the triple jump with a leap of 37' 1 ¼". She led a trio of Blue Hens that swept the top three spots in the event that included Halimah Roberson (2nd– 37' 1") and Ruby Mullen (3rd– 36' 6 ¾").
Meyer continued her building on each meet, finishing with a time of 1:15.36, good to qualify for the ECACs and take the second-best time in the event in school history. Bazan clocked in at 18:06.72 to take the top spot in the 5000m.
Pettipaw, Meyer, Stovall and freshman Halima Scott teamed for an ECAC qualifying performance in the 4x400 relay, clocking in at 3:52.18.
Sophomore Myrissa McFolling-Young was steady once again, landing yet another top-three finish, placing second in the shot put with a throw of 42' 6".
The Blue Hens return to action next weekend when they travel north to the Princeton Invite on Saturday, February 16.
