Blue Hens Drop Game 2 at Liberty, 8-1

LYNCHBURG, Va. – On a rain-filled Saturday, the University of Delaware baseball team dropped a tough 8-1 decision to Liberty in the second-game of the three-game set.
Six different Blue Hens had a hit a piece with senior Kevin Mohollen knocking in the Blue Hens' lone run. Senior Brandon Walter tossed four innings, allowing just two earned runs, while striking out five.
"Tonight was the first time early this year that we just didn't play well overall," head coach Jim Sherman said. "Early in the first half of the game, we gave ourselves a chance with Walter throwing well on the mound. We made some mental mistakes in the middle innings and the game got away from us a bit. We just have to keep plugging, keep fighting and keep growing even though the results haven't been there to start the year."
Liberty jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first, but the Blue Hens would respond in the top of the third with a leadoff single to left by Erik Bowren to start the frame. Bowren moved to second on an errant pickoff attempt and one pitch later came around to score on Mohollen's single to centerfield.
Delaware would get a runner to second, but Liberty was able to get out of the jam and preserve the 2-1 lead.
The Flames would string together three runs in the fifth and add three more in the seventh to push their lead to 8-1.
The Blue Hens would try to put together a rally, but Liberty's bullpen held strong to secure the victory for the home team.
