Brewster Shines as Blue Hens Hold on at Temple, 7-4

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Delaware offense stepped up in the first half while the defense proved crucial in the second half Friday afternoon as the Hens topped Temple, 7-4, at Howarth Field in the 2019 season opener.
The Owls (0-1) scored first, but the Blue Hens (1-0) responded with two straight goals and then never relinquished the lead en route to victory.
Sophomore goalie Kate Brewster finished the game with a career-high 20 saves, the most for the Blue Hens since Lauren Burtch collected 21 saves at Rutgers on March 11, 2003. Brewster added a game-best five ground balls and two caused turnovers for her first career win.
Junior Christine Long posted her fifth career hat trick to go along with an assist for four points while classmates Mia DeRuggiero registered three points on one goal and two assists and Claire D'Antonio tallied two goals.
Senior Caroline Farley logged four draw controls while D'Antonio picked up three of her own.
