Sarah Piening Earns CAA Pitcher of the Week Honors

NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware junior Sarah Piening was named the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Pitcher of the Week on Monday following her two outstanding starts in the circle over the weekend.
Piening (Old Tappan, N.J./Immaculate Conception) went 2-0 with a 0.48 ERA in three appearances during the Blue Hens' home-opening weekend. She allowed one run on seven hits in a complete game victory during Saturday's 6-1 win over Mount St. Mary's, and then gave up one unearned run in two-thirds of an inning in relief during the second game vs. the Mountaineers.
Piening then fired the 16th no-hitter in school history during Sunday's 1-0 win over Coppin State. She walked just one batter on the day, while retiring the other 21 batters she faced. Additionally, Piening tied her career-high by striking out seven batters in both of her starts on the weekend.
Piening has won seven games in the circle this season for the Blue Hens, while she leads the squad and ranks eighth in the CAA with a 2.73 earned run average.
Piening shared Pitcher of the Week honors with Haley Lenderman of UNCW.
