NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware softball has added transfer Takyla Davis, an infielder from Arizona State, to its roster for the 2027 season.
"Takyla is the type of player who can change a game with her athleticism," head coach Jen Steele said. "She's quick, explosive, and has already proven she can compete at the highest level after starting as a freshman at Arizona State. The experience she gained competing in one of the toughest conferences in the country will allow her to make an immediate impact for us. As a Delaware native, bringing Takyla home is especially exciting, and we're confident she'll elevate our middle infield and our program from day one."
Davis was with the Sun Devils for two seasons, starting 45 of 48 games played as a freshman in 2025 before missing most of the 2026 season due to injury. In her first year, she had a solid .351 on-base percentage while hitting .245 with a .357 slugging percentage, along with three home runs, 15 RBIs, and 12 walks. Her first career hit was a two-run home run against Miami (Ohio) in her second game. On March 1, she went 3-for-3 against UTEP. In Arizona State's Big 12 series against BYU from March 6-8, she went 4-for-9, helping the Sun Devils to a series victory. She also hit home runs against Iowa State on March 28 and April 17, 2025. Davis helped Arizona State to two NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Big 12 Conference Tournament title in 2026 and a Super Regional appearance.
From Georgetown, Del., Davis played at Sussex Central High School, where she was a three-time First-Team All-Conference selection, two-time First-Team All-State honoree, and two-time Academic All-Conference selection.
Davis joins Charlotte Moore from Virginia Tech and Madison Steppe from Hofstra as Delaware's transfer additions during the 2026 offseason. The Blue Hens have had notable success navigating the transfer portal in recent years, having brought in former CAA Pitcher of the Year and All-Region selection Billie Kerwood, two-time All-Region honoree Morgan Hess, CAA Defensive Player of the Year and All-Region selection Mary Beth Cahalan, CAA Defensive Player of the Year Kiara Mills, All-Region selections Julia Boyet, and All-Region selection and 2023 ERA leader Taylor Wroten.Â
UD ended the season at 31-24 and 17-10 in conference play in its inaugural CUSA season. Delaware has won at least 30 games in three consecutive seasons for the first time in program history.
