NEWARK, Del. – There's an old adage that states the work put in during the offseason is what leads to success when it really counts.
If that's the case, the University of Delaware volleyball team is in good shape as it took home a 3-2 (18-25, 25-21, 25-23, 17-25, 15-13) win over Villanova in the spring opener at Bob Carpenter Center on Wednesday evening.
"It was great to see our girls get out and really compete tonight. Villanova has always been a very well-coached team and we did a great job of executing some areas that we have really focused on in our workouts," head coach Sara Matthews said. "It's nice to see the team's hard work paying off. I'm excited to continue to see their progress throughout the spring. This is just the beginning for this group."
The Blue Hens got outstanding efforts from rising sophomores Adelina Rivera-Woolard and Grace Underwood who combined for 18 kills with them hitting .545 and .227, respectively.
Bailey Pearlman had a great night as well with 11 kills and hitting .290, while rising senior Maria Bellinger led the team with 14 kills.
