RICHMOND, Va. – Just five games into his collegiate career, it appears Tye Kurtz is adjusting just fine.
Kurtz helped the University of Delaware men's lacrosse team to its best start since 2008 with a record-breaking week of eight goals and three assists in the Blue Hens' two games last week. For his outstanding play, Kurtz was named CAA Rookie of the Week.
"I really credit my coaches and my teammates for putting me in the position to succeed," Kurtz said. "Ever since I arrived on campus, we've pushed each other to get better every day and to do whatever it takes to help the team win. I'm just trying to do my best in order to accomplish that goal."
In last week's midweek victory over Saint Joseph's, Kurtz was electric all afternoon long, setting a new freshman record for points in a game with eight against the Hawks. He finished with five goals and three assists, just one goal away from tying the program record for goals in a single game as well.
The Ontario native wasn't done as he followed it up with a second straight hat trick against 10th-ranked Villanova on Saturday.
For the season, Kurtz has 10 goals and four assists for the Blue Hens.
Delaware is back in action on Wednesday when they host the Bears of Mercer University. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
