NEWARK, Del. – With spring in the air, the weather is warming up around the University of Delaware.
Well so is the volleyball program, who continued its strong spring season with a 5-0 defeat of UMBC over the weekend.
"I'm really happy with how our team performed over the weekend. We talked a lot after our last scrimmage about how we are preparing and focusing throughout our matches. There was a drastic difference in that and it showed," head coach Sara Matthews said. "I thought our first ball contact was so much better and our serving was tough and consistent. Overall, I thought it was a great team performance and it showed with the outcome."
The Blue Hens was exceptionally efficient in the win, hitting .225 thanks to the offense being spread around by Courtnie Roberts and Julia Hayes. Kori Rasmussen had a tremendous day with no errors on 14 attempts.
Maria Bellinger continued to have great showings, this time finishing with 16 kills, while Adelina Rivera-Woolard added 10 kills for the Blue Hens. Grace Underwood and Cailey Bracken each chipped in eight kills apiece to help the offensive attack.
As a team, Delaware pounded out 15 aces and now has 32 aces in the past two spring matches.
