Delaware Men’s Golfers in Fifth Place Following First Day of CAA Championship

PINEHURST, N.C. – Delaware sits in fifth place following Friday's action at the 2019 Colonial Athletic Association Men's Golf Championship.
Charleston leads the field with a 287 score, while James Madison is second at 290. The Blue Hens are fifth out of nine conference teams with a 291 total. The round was suspended with three golfers having one hole to play, including UD's Jack Melville.
Blue Hen freshman Matt Pulgini carded a two over par 73 during his opening round on the par 71, 7,088-yard Pinehurst No. 8 course, ending the day in a tie for 13th place. Pulgini birdied the first and ninth holes on Friday while adding 13 pars.
Melville is also tied for 13th place at two over par, and will finish the 18th hole on Saturday morning. Melville birdied the second hole and made 13 pars on Friday.
Roberto Nieves, who birdied the second and third holes during his round, is tied for 19th place with a three over par 74. RJ Wren fired a four over par 75 and ended the day in a tie for 22nd place. Nick Vecellio, who shot an eight over par 79, is tied for 36th place at the tournament.
Michael Sass of Charleston leads the field at three under par, while William Harwood of Elon is one shot back.
The second round of the three-day tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
