BALTIMORE, MD. & PRINCETON, N.J. – No resting on the weekends for the University of Delaware track & field program.
The Blue Hens had another busy weekend, this time sending student-athletes to both the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University and the Legacy Meet at Morgan State University. In total, Delaware brought home 11 top-three finishes, including a school record and CAA-best performance.
"We had another solid weekend and I'm happy where we're headed as a group. We're only two weeks away from CAAs and I'm excited to see what this group can achieve when it counts the most," head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith said.
Highlighting the weekend were sophomores Halimah Roberson in the triple jump and Susanna Weir in the 3000m steeplechase. Roberson unleashed the CAA's best mark this spring, leaping 40' ½" at the Legacy meet to earn a top-three finish.
Weir became the first Blue Hen in program history to break 10:50 in the steeplechase, clocking in at 10:49.34 to break a five-year old school record held by Melissa Mazzo.
In addition, Diana Dunn (3000m) and Ruby Mullen (triple jump) also joined the growing ECAC qualifiers for the Blue Hens. Dunn took home Delaware's only victory of the weekend, winning the 3000m at the Larry Ellis Invitational. Her time of 9:53.87 was not only an ECAC qualifier, but also is the fifth-best time in program history.
Mullen was just two spots behind her teammate Roberson in the triple jump, leaping 38' 8 ¾" for fifth-place and an ECAC qualifying mark. She also now holds the fifth-best mark in the CAA this spring.
Sophomore Myrissa McFolling-Young continued her strong season with top-three finishes in both the shot put and discus at the Legacy Meet, while Olivia Duffy and Bethany Clement both claimed personal bests in the hammer throw.
Junior Michaela Meyer moved up the record books with another outstanding performance, finishing the 1500m in 4:29.55 for the fourth-best time in program history. Senior co-captain Carlyn McGrath turned in one of the CAA's best performance this spring in the 100m hurdles, clocking in at 14.49, the fourth-best mark in the league.
