Blue Hens Hit Four Homers but Fall to Villanova in Slugfest, 16-9

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Delaware tied the program record by belting four home runs but fell to Villanova in a slugfest, 16-9, Wednesday afternoon.

Delaware (19-25) got off to a fantastic start, scoring six runs on three homers before an out was recorded. Hanna Garber led off the game with a triple, while Halle Kisamore followed with a longball to put the Blue Hens on the board. Following a single by Brooke Glanden and a walk to Anna Steinmetz, Karolina Flores drilled a three-run shot to make it a 5-0 game.

Following a Villanova pitching change, Brittney Mendoza drilled a home run to put Delaware up six.

The Wildcats (25-20) quickly answered with eight runs in the bottom half, highlighted with a two-run homer by Caroline Jones and a two-run double by Angela Giampolo.

Villanova added a run in the bottom of the third, before Steinmetz belted a two-run homer and Reyna de Jesus doubled home Flores in the fourth to pull Delaware even at 9-9.

However the Wildcats countered with seven more runs on seven hits in the bottom of the fourth to take control.

The Blue Hens hit four home runs in a game for the fifth time in school history. Flores paced the 13-hit attack by finishing 3 for 4 with three RBI and two runs scored while Garber, Kisamore and Medoza added two hits apiece.
