PRINCETON, N.J. – The rise of the University of Delaware women's track & field team continued when the Blue Hens earned a top-10 finish at ECAC Championships on a rain-filled weekend at Princeton University.
It's the first time in program history that Delaware has finished in the top-10 in both the indoor and outdoor seasons at ECAC Championships. The Blue Hens finished seventh this past weekend and eighth at the indoor championships back in February.
"It was a tough weather weekend for everyone, but once again our team showed tremendous energy and really pushed each other to give their best efforts every time they took to the track," head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith said.
Leading the Blue Hens on the weekend were senior Ashley Bailey (pole vault) and sophomore Halimah Roberson (triple jump), who both took home silver medals on the weekend.
Bailey took home her third career top-two finish from ECACs, clearing 13' 1 ¾" for second place. Roberson followed up her silver medal performance in the indoors by taking home another one with a jump of 39' 10 ½".
Sophomore Susanna Weir had a record-breaking weekend, clocking in at a new program record 10:41.37 in the steeplechase.
Delaware had a strong weekend in the relays with both the 4x100 (Rochester, Pinkney, Leaks and Scott) and the 4x800 (Meyer, Capparell, Stovall, Harding) taking home fourth place finishes.
Sophomore Myrissa McFolling-Young (discus) and junior Diana Dunn (3000m) both took home top-eight performances to earn points for the Blue Hens.
